RS4K - Early Access
Entropy and Sons Launches the Recursion Studio 4K, Now in Early Access
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - July 26, 2026 - Entropy and Sons today announced Early Access availability of the Recursion Studio 4K, the next-generation successor to its flagship hardware video synthesizer, the Recursion Studio HD. The Recursion Studio 4K is available now for $1,600 at entropyandsons.com

The Recursion Studio 4K is a standalone visual instrument that generates real-time, interactive video for live performance, installation, and studio work. Built on a semi-modular architecture with hundreds of swappable processing modules, the platform lets VJs, visual artists, and lighting designers construct and perform video the way musicians perform sound: hands on hardware, no computer required.
The Recursion Studio 4K is the first commercially available 4K video synthesizer. The new model delivers ten times the processing power and around six times the memory of the original, with user-selectable internal rendering: 4K at 30fps, 2K at 60fps, or 1080p at 120fps. It is fully backward compatible with the original Recursion Studio, running the entire existing library of instruments, modules, and patches at dramatically higher fidelity.
New hardware capabilities include a dedicated 4K HDMI input for live video mixing, dual HDMI outputs, 32+ GB of onboard NVMe-expandable storage for video clips, and substantially upgraded CV inputs: bipolar ±5V, sampling up to one million samples per second across eight channels, fast enough to render oscilloscope music directly from audio-rate signals.
The Early Access software already includes three new instruments and over one hundred new modules beyond the original platform. Over the course of Early Access, Entropy and Sons will ship a freeform open-ended instrument architecture, real-time video delay-loop modules, user-uploadable custom shaders and modules, NDI/DMX/OSC support, and a fully redesigned UI. All hardware is final, tested, and validated.
The Early Access price is $1,600; the retail price will rise to $1,750 at the 1.0 release.
The Recursion Studio 4K ships worldwide. The original Recursion Studio HD remains in production and fully supported, with its price reduced to $899.04, continuing our long stated goal of making professional quality video synthesis broadly available. Existing Recursion Studio HD owners receive full software parity for all updates the original hardware can support.
